Organized Play

Overview of the Organized Play System

Our goal for organized play is to create a balanced, engaging, and financially sustainable competitive circuit for Chrono CCG that rewards player skill and dedication. To do this we’ll be breaking our types of play down into four distinct entities: Ladder, Grand Prix, Pro Tour, and World Championship.

Ladder

Our ladder will consist of seven ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Timeless. Each rank will have five divisions within it, for example, Gold five all the way up to Gold one. The exception to this will be the Timeless rank, which will simply have a hard cap of the top 200 ranked players.

There will be separate rankings for limited and constructed formats. At the end of each season, before soft ladder rank reset, players will receive in-game rewards for each rank they have achieved that season. The exception to this is the Timeless rank.

The in-game rewards for the Timeless rank will only be available to those in the rank at the time of reset. Additionally, the top Timeless ranked players each season on both limited and constructed ladders will automatically receive a day two invitation to the Monthly Grand Prix. See below for details.

Grand Prix

Our Grand Prix will be monthly events, open to all players. The format of these events will consistently shift back and forth from constructed to limited to keep competition diverse and interesting. Grand Prix will consist of three stages, Qualifiers, Day One, and Day Two.

Two Qualifiers will be held for each Grand prix, one on the previous weekend, and one on the Friday directly before. Entrance to the qualifier will be available either through an entry fee, or reaching a certain level on the monthly Battle Pass. Achieving a certain number of wins in a Qualifier will qualify a player for Day One of the Grand Prix. It will be possible to re-enter Grand Prix Qualifiers to take multiple attempts at the win number required to claim a day One invitation.

On Day One a certain number of wins will qualify you through to Day Two, while a certain number of losses will drop you from the tournament. All entrants to Day Two will receive in-game currency prizes. Day two of the Grand Prix will include, in addition to in-game rewards, cash prizes, qualification points for the Pro Tour, and automatic Qualification for the pro tour depending on the amount of wins.

Pro Tour

The Pro Tour event will occur once every three months. Qualification to the Pro Tour will be through placement in Grand Prix and previous Pro Tour events. The format for the Pro Tour will be constantly rotating to test a large range of skills. Pro Tour events will award significantly larger cash prizes than Grand Prix as well as exclusive items for participating and potential qualifications for the World Championship.

World Championship

Once a year we will gather the top players of Chrono from all around the world to take part in the world championships. Qualifications for these events will be from the top performing players in the Grand Prix and the Pro Tour circuit the whole year round. This tournament will be across multiple formats over the course of the event to crown the most versatile and skilled player of the game.

Prizes for the World Championship will be fueled by the monthly battle passes. Thirty-Three percent of every battle-pass purchase will go directly to the prize pool for the World Championship. The hope is to use this direct player-contribution method to create what could potentially be one of the largest prize pools in digital card gaming.

Funding and Prize Pools

We will always strive to be as transparent and on the ball as possible with our community when it comes to understanding what the prize pools will be, how to qualify for our events, and what those events will entail.

The monthly Battle Pass System offering cosmetics, in-game currency at a significantly reduced prize, and a free entry to the monthly Grand Prix, will directly increase the end of the year Prize Pool for the World Championship.

The goal of the competitive system is to have interesting and interconnected tournaments throughout the year to keep the community engaged and competing. With this in mind we will look to balance the prize distribution between Grand Prix, Pro Tours, and the World Championship itself as much as possible.

Implementation Timeline

We’re looking at four phases for our Organized play system: Development, Promotional, Launch, and Evaluation.

During our Development phase we will Finalize game formats, rule sets, and the point system needed to qualify for Pro Tours and the World Championship.

Our Promotional phase will consist of announcements about the organized play system going live along with detailed schedules and notes about how players can qualify and what the prize pools will be.

The Launch phase will begin with our first Grand Prix. We will closely monitor participation, feedback, and any technical challenges to make the tournaments run as smoothly as possible.

Finally in our evaluation phase, at the end of our first full cycle, after a World Champion has been crowned. We will gather feedback, analyze data, and make any necessary adjustments to improve the system.
