April Dev Update

Hey everyone, Ash here. It’s wild to think it’s been nearly a year since we launched the Kickstarter for Chrono. Thanks to your support, we reached our funding goal and kicked off development. On that original Kickstarter page, we set our sights on an estimated release of April 2025. As you’ve probably figured out by now… we didn’t quite make that window.

Game development has a way of throwing curveballs, and we've had our fair share. That said, we don’t want to leave you hanging, so here’s what we’re doing instead.

Starting tomorrow, May 6th, we’ll begin inviting a small group of players from our Discord to test out a Pre-Alpha version of the Chrono client. This build includes all of our cards, a working deck-builder, and a matchmaking system, Which means that, technically, yes, it’s playable! But let me be super clear: this is a Pre-Alpha, not our full Alpha. That means it’s still rough around the edges. Buggy, visually incomplete, and very much a work-in-progress. This isn’t the kind of build most developers would let out into the world, but we want our community to be part of every step of the journey. Even the messy ones.

We’ll be inviting playtesters to a separate Discord server that’ll act as home base for downloading the build, finding matches, and reporting bugs. As time goes on, we’ll expand access to more players. If you’re not selected in the first wave and you’d like to join in, speak up! Let us know through our main Discord and socials, or send a DM to ItsThatAshGuy on Discord and we’ll add you to the waitlist.

A lot of our energy this past month has gone into getting this client playable. We’ve been testing internally, fixing bugs, breaking things again, fixing them again. You know how it goes. (Don’t worry, we’ve definitely left some for you to find too.) We’ve also been using this build to give potential investors a look at where we’re headed, especially when it comes to the future visual polish of the game. That’s about all I can say about that for now, but know that we’re working hard behind the scenes to make Chrono shine.

Internally, we’ve set our sights on October 2025 for the Alpha release. That’s not a hard release date — more of a target we’re aiming for. There’s still a lot to do between now and then, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

Now, I know what you’re thinking:

“Yeah, yeah, early client, cool. But where’s the new Chrono Connections?”

Okay okay, chill. I got you. Chrono Connections. Ravenous.

To sum things up: We’ve been squashing bugs, building the foundation, and getting ready to bring you into the process. Now it’s your turn to squash some bugs too. Huge thanks to everyone who’s stuck with us on this journey so far. We’ve come a long way and we’ve got a lot more road ahead. As always, you can reach out to us on our socials.

We’ll see you again next month with another Dev Update. Until then, keep an eye out for an invite from us and happy playtesting!
