November Dev Update 2025 - Alpha Release

Hey everyone, Ash here! This update will consist of our work from this past month as well as the release of our Alpha to our Kickstarter backers later this month. We’ve got lots to get through regarding our new work on card art, our board and UI so lets get into it so we can talk more about Alpha!

State of UI

A while back I mentioned that we would be overhauling our UI from our Pre-Alpha build into a new and shinier version for our Alpha build and forward. The framework for that UI is built and is implemented into our internal version of the game but we’re still replacing a few placeholder images and adding a bit of polish. That means I can’t show you everything we have in store but I can show you some of our more completed screens like…

And our Deck Editor Screen!

State of Card Art

In those screenshots you may have noticed that we are still using AI for our placeholder images. For the past year and a half we’ve been open about using AI during our playtesting versions of the game. This past month we have made a large push into getting human-made art for our cards. With the collaboration of over 10 artists we are making an effort to replace all of our placeholder images before the launch of our Beta. With our limited budget and short time frame, that means we will be launching our Alpha and Beta with art that is 100% completed alongside with pieces we’re calling Beta Art. They’re still beautiful but they’ll require more detail and touchups when we get the time to go back to them.

With Chrono being a game all about multiverses and time travel, we’re not shying away from the idea of many different styles coming together to fill out our card collection. Chrono has a diverse cast of colorful, otherworldly and grim characters that a single art style wouldn’t suit them all. Please let us know what you think of our current direction and if you’re an artist, feel free to reach out to us!

State of the Board

As mentioned last month, we’re still working on connecting all the bits and bobs to our new board as well as updating the look of other elements that will appear on the board such as our Card Frames and Timelines. The bad news is that there are no images in this section of the Dev Update because we’re still working on them. The good news is that we’re pretty close to getting them finished! If this Dev Update came out a week later, I’d probably be showing them off to you. C’est la vie. We want to make sure everything is working properly before we allow players to test it out and break everything in our Alpha!

ChronoCCG is on Epic Games

PRIVATELY. You won’t be able to find it by searching Chrono in the store yet but yes, Chrono is now playable via Epic Games. We plan on being on Steam in the future, but it may be a while so at least for now, you’re gonna need the Epic Game Launcher to participate in our Alpha.

Okay, Seriously Let’s Talk About Alpha

I spoiled it at the top but the big news is that we will be releasing our Alpha to all of our eligible Kickstarter backers as soon as we finish and clean up the board. Officially, we are planning to have our Alpha available to you by the end of this month, December 2025. When we’re ready to launch we’ll make sure there is a big announcement with more details but for now you can expect our Alpha to have our new board, new UI, a Ranked system in place, importing and exporting decks, over 80 new art for our cards and patches to follow! The Alpha will also consist of no pack collection which means that every player will have a full collection for the game! We’re very excited (and frankly, nervous) to finally be bringing Chrono to the players who have supported us all this time and we’re looking forward to seeing you out on the Timeline! With the release of our Alpha, we'll also be closing the Kickstarter late pledges by the end of this month, so if you haven't already and you want some of our rewards, make sure to pledge now!

…How am I supposed to follow up the announcement of our Alpha with another Chrono Connections? This news is overshadowing the sanctity of my little game! It’s my 1 year anniversary!

Big thank you as always to everyone reading this and supporting us on our socials. You can find them all below and please be sure to talk to us about the direction of our art, ask questions about the Alpha and just get hyped! Chrono Winter Break!
